6-AXIS AUTOMATIC VERTICAL DRILLING MACHINE FOR THE DRILLING, BEVELLING AND POLISHING OF FLAT GLASS
SKILL DRILL is a 6-axis, numerical control drilling machine for making holes, markings, bevels and openings of any form on flat glass with a thickness of 4 – 20 mm and with either a coarse or polished finish.
The machine is composed of six interpolated axes, X XG Y V Z W, and two electrospindles positioned opposite one another creating a dead centre system that drills perfect holes.
SKILL DRILL has an entrance support, a central body and an exit support. The central unit supports two electrospindles of 4 Kw with a speed of 0 to 12,000 mounted on ball bearing guides and command racks which can move vertically or horizontally in order to carry out any process via numerical control and interpolated with Vacuum-operated belts.
Every spindle has an ten automatic change tool slots and, through the rotating joint, allows water to cool down the system during the process, starting from the moment the sheet glass is fixed with the entrance vacuum belt. The vacuum belts steadily slide the sheet glass towards the machining centre until it reaches the correct position. Having already automatically loaded the tools required, the machine is ready to use.
Once the process is complete the sheet glass is automatically transported through the exit by the rollers to the unloading position while the vacuum belts are already loading another slab.
The vertical processing of sheet glass has many advantages in comparison with flat processing. The size of the machine is considerably less than a corresponding flat machine and the position of the sheet glass on the roller automatically obtains the fixed zero point without error to the extent that the stroke is certain. Furthermore, horizontal machines must be perfectly even to avoid breaking the glass whereas with vertical machines, the position of the glass is naturally aligned since it is supported from underneath.
The machine can carry out multiple processes:
DRILLING: thanks to opposed heads, it is performed with maximum speed and always guarantees optimum quality and precision.
MILLING: thanks to the robustness and precision of the machinery, it is a simple and quick operation and by using multiple tools can mill and grind an insert in just a few seconds.
COUNTERSINKING: it can be carried out with single diamond tools controlled from the program according to the needs of the client as well as with accessories mounted on the diamond drill bits.
POLISHING: it can be carried out in small inserts with 50 or 30 mm grinders.
SkillGlass CAD-CAM, the program the operator uses to plan each process, allows the operator to manage a workbench containing all available tools and any information on them such as diameter, feed and rotation speed, attachment type (semi-circumference, ¼ circumference, tangent, inclined, vertical), distance from nominal profile and the oscillation value of the tool. The pressure of the polishing grinders is set using numerical control according to the parameters set previously so that the glass is optimally polished and finished.
The automatic lubrication system is composed of numerous lubrication points situated in the areas of most movement. A central pump regulates the continuous flow of lubrication fluid.
The constant lubrication of all moving components such as bearings, recirculating ball screws and areas of linear movement is very important to prevent malfunctions and blockages and to reduce recurring maintenance costs.
The central unit reaches the lubrication points of the main line according to the quantity and frequency programmed by the operator. The entire system is controlled by the PLC and is therefore managed completely automatically.
